Eminem grew up in very poor circumstances with a mom who basically slept with anybody who would pay the rent and neglected her kids. To make extra money she took in foster kids(which is fucked up this happens a lot), and one of those foster kids was a teenage girl around his own age, that he started a relationship with, and eventually married, and had a child with. During that time, his marriage was tumultuous, and he was not making enough money to support his family. A lot of this song is about that. The desperation and the drive. The fear that his child will grow up in a similar circumstances to himself. And how he would rather die, then have that happen

Steve Winwood had this 'soul' in his voice from a teenager which is for white guy very extraordinary, The thing that he pulled out 'Gimme your lovin' at age of about 17 is ridicilous. Together him and Chaka Chan souded phenomenal as they both have this a bit craspy but high pitch in this song and the funny thing is that this is more like gospelpsong and not as a pop song.
